Starting right from the house

For me (Charlotte) one of the greatest activities here: Just grab a kayak, drop it in the water and start paddling. Especially in the morning and evening hours there is a great atmosphere on the water. Because of the bay and the surrounding islands, the water is usually so calm that you forget you're on the ocean - until the seals remind you again. If you paddle towards the open sea you will pass a seal colony and you can watch the cute paddlers swimming and lying in the sun. Even though the sea lions are curious, they keep a proper distance from the kayak and we should also not get too close to them so as not to drive them away.

Canadas Ocean Playground

I (Nicola) just love being surrounded by water.
There is a reason why the license plates says “Canadas ocean playground”. Standing on our float down at the sea you can see lobster and crabs and if you turn some stones around you will find mussels all over them. Just a 5 minute ride with a boat will bring you to amazing fishing grounds – sometimes we didn’t have to wait at all to get a catch! Of course, please only take what you can eat and if you have enough fish after 10 minutes simply enjoy the beautiful nature around you and definitely always keep an eye out for the bald eagles!
Halifax is an amazing city for just strolling around and stopping at local cideries or visiting the weekend markets before enjoying an amazing breakfast in one of the great restaurants the city has to offer.
My must do’s for the next time visiting will definitely be tide bore rafting and the hop on hop off bus from vineyard to vineyard in Wolfsville!

Close by - Peggy's Cove

Only 10 min by car from the house you'll find Peggy's Cove: a beautiful fishing village with a picturesque lighthouse. Being highlighted by every traveler's guide it can be crowded sometimes, which is why we recommend taking advantage of the closeness of the accomodation to get up early and enjoy the sunrise there.
If you love a bit of a rougher sea make sure to visit Peggys Cove on a windy day - watching the waves of the powerful ocean break over the stones during a sunset was a highlight for us!

Also, if you're up for walks, make sure to use one of the parking spaces directly off the road on the way to Peggy's Cove and take a walk around Polly's Cove. The landscape is truly beautiful here and you can enjoy views of the ocean and waves crashing against the big rocks that are a key part of the scenery here.
